Crypto Liquidation Price Calculator (Isolated Margin)
Estimate the liquidation price for isolated margin.
Formula & notes
Formula
In isolated margin a position is liquidated when losses reduce its margin to the maintenance margin. Ignoring fees:
- Long liquidation price = entry × (1 − 1/leverage) ÷ (1 − maintenance margin rate)
- Short liquidation price = entry × (1 + 1/leverage) ÷ (1 + maintenance margin rate)
Exchanges set maintenance margin rates by position-size tier — the bigger the position, the higher the rate. For example, the current OKX BTC perpetual tiers: up to 10.0000 BTC → 0.40%; up to 50.0000 BTC → 0.50%; up to 200.0000 BTC → 0.75%. Pick a symbol and enter your position size and the maintenance margin rate above is filled in from OKX's tiers. In cross margin, the rest of your balance absorbs losses too, so the real liquidation price is further away than shown here.
How to lower liquidation risk
Lower leverage is the most direct fix: 10× is liquidated after roughly a 9.5% adverse move, 3× after about 33%. Always set a stop-loss well before the liquidation price.
Liquidation price calculator: common questions
How far can price move before a 10× position is liquidated?
In isolated margin with a 0.5% maintenance rate, a 10× long is liquidated after about a 9.55% drop and a short after about a 9.45% rise. A 10× long opened at 60,000 USDT liquidates near 54,271 USDT. Higher leverage shortens the distance: about 4.5% at 20× and 1.5% at 50×.
How does cross margin change the liquidation price?
Isolated margin only uses the margin assigned to the position, which is what this calculator shows. Cross margin uses your whole available balance, so the liquidation price is further away — but a liquidation can take the entire account.
Why is the exchange's liquidation price different from this result?
The exchange also accounts for trading fees, funding already paid or received, the margin tier of your position and, in cross margin, your other positions. Always rely on the figure the exchange shows before trading.
Where do I find the maintenance margin rate?
In the contract's margin tier table on the exchange, tiered by position size. Pick a symbol and enter your size in the advanced options above and the rate is filled in from OKX's current tiers.
